Mr. J. Manus van der Jagt - Field of study: Trade Management Asia
Personal introduction:
Dear Members,
Besides all the cultural beauty and the historical treasures Asia has to offer, we all know that the growth in the Asia Pacific region has been phenomenal for some years now, and still is, compared to the rest of the world.
My study Trade Management Asia is a part of the International Trade Program of the Economics and Management School (HES), an economic study aimed at Asia.
Logically this was one of the reasons why I started working for the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
Besides the professional attraction, the office at the prinsengracht is a privilege to work in, especially because I was born, and am living in Amsterdam.
Through my work for the HKTDC I got in touch with the Netherlands Hong Kong Society.
The first time I met some of its members was at the Chinese New Year dinner at the Sea Palace in 2007, where I assisted Anna with the preparation for the event.
Now that I have the honour to be the first student member, as well as the youngest member of the oldest Hong Kong focused society, I hope I can be of value to the Netherlands Hong Kong Society in the future.
拜拜
Jochem Manus van der Jagt
Mrs. E. Slater OliveiraPersonal message: I have the Portuguese Nationality and I was born in Hong Kong. I speak Cantonese fluently and I have lived in the Netherlands for the past 35 years, working in the petrochemical industry in the corporate communications and facility management fields. I have always wanted to set up a part time distribution network of Chinese materials to the Netherlands and especially in these difficult economic crisis, maybe in some way try to assist some of the smaller businesses in Hong Kong. I am also a fanatic field hockey player and have been chairwoman of Hockey Club Voorne for 2 terms.

Rob Beekwilder was featured in an article in the Financieele Dagblad of 8 December 2008. In the article he answered three questions.
1. Are you already thinking of December 2010? Beekwilder reponds that his customers will decide what they will do in the next year in the first weeks of December. At first they were reluctant to invest in new decoration materials for their shopwindows. The better than expected Saint Nicholas’ sales have persuaded them to change their minds.
2. Does a wintery landscape help? Beekwilder: “When I was walking on the Veluwe two weeks ago and it started to snow, I was overjoyed. When it snows heavily, the shops are at first empty but then the fill up. A white landscape stimulates shopkeepers to do more with their shop windows.
3. Your father started as a painter of bill boards and invented new fonts for shops. What is your profession like now? Beekwilder: “Colour trends are now succeeding each other very rapidly. At the moment black and white is dominant. Christmas 2010 will be dominated by silver and gold. Colours that together create a champagne colour. The decoration of shop windows is now interwoven with the world of fashion and interior.
